See, Speak, and Hear No Evil
Ever slam a book shut in the middle of a horrific passage? Did it evoke a personal experience or the vividness seem to real, as if you were actually living it?
This is known as “Secondary or Vicarious Trauma”
Write a story about the written word or movie or a conversation you had that caused you to shut down. Do you avoid that author, friend or subject today?
Years ago I watched an episode of Malcolm In the Middle. Lois insisted an auto accident she was involved in was not her fault. Hal and the boys discover a surveillance tape that proves she WAS NOT at fault. But they refuse to tell her because they didn’t want her to be “right”. I quit watching the show after that; I felt personally violated and the evilness upset me greatly.
