Childish Crush

Rick felt immensely ridiculous as he walked to Mckenzie’s front door, her umbrella grasped in his sweaty palms. Suddenly remembering he forgot to look in the mirror, he smoothed his hair back in a manner he thought suave. His index finger hesitated, then pressed the doorbell. The arched wooden doors opened to reveal a tall and slightly awkward girl, flustering at the sight of him so much so that she forgot she was suppose to be cross with Rick.

“So, I brought you your umbrella,” Rick blurted out after a few seconds of silence. “Didn’t want you to get wet or anything.”

“Oh,” she said, surprised, and beamed at him. “That was nice of you.” Then, pausing to think, she added, “We could still ‘bunch up’, you know.”

“Sure,” he grinned, and gave her the umbrella, putting his arm around her, at a slight distance. She opened the black and silver umbrella slowly, and suddenly screamed.

“Rick, you moron! I can’t believe you stuck a spider in my umbrella!” Rick laughed, then ran, dodging Mckenzie’s slapping hand.
