A Most Curious Fairy
The fairy was unusual even by fairy standards. Not that we can talk of fairy standards with any accuracy, fairy society being so different that even ‘society’ might not actually apply.
The fairy was unusual, as I was saying, because it was curious. Very curious, even by fairy “standards”. To most of her thousand siblings, human contact was acceptable, the way humans played with kittens. But putting oneself at their own level? Ha! “You must be mad”, they said.
It wanted to understand them. Just like it had done many nights before, it englamored herself to look like the most beautiful human being it knew — the princess who often came to that very same glen so often. And in that guise, thinking about its favorite subject (human feelings, of course) it took a bath.
It didn’t know that someone was looking.
