The best advice about writing I ever got was from my seventh/eighth grade English teacher. She was amazing and really encouraged me to explore my creative writing by being my eternal critic. One piece of advice was to never use exclamation points. And, if I felt I really had to, to only do it during dialogue. She pushed me to “show, don’t tell” and get my point (exclamation or otherwise) across using words, metaphors, symbolism, etc but not relying on punctuation. You definitely have great potential as a writer — try pushing yourself to use other ways to convey your character’s emotions — I bet it will turn out great.
