A New Deal
He blinked, then slowly grinned. “Ah, so that’s the way it is? I could sue you for theft, you know.”
I snorted. “It was self-defense. Besides, she’d just eaten my brother.”
He shrugged. “It’s natural behavior for her. And she is my property.”
“How on earth is it right for you to own another person?” I asked. “I’ve never understood that. All these gene-mod non-person laws just passed like magic.”
“But they are the law.” The millionaire grinned. “And thus, you’ve eaten my property. How are you going to pay me back?”

He held up a broken glass vial. “Afraid that’s not going to work,” he said, smearing himself with the fluid within. “I take precautions.” He grinned. “Now I have a deal for you.”
Doors opened behind me, and several security guards entered—as well as a fairly large tiger neko. “You can be a new pet for me…or you can be dinner for him.”
