I haven’t read the rest, so this may be answered there, but why are these two together? And why is the narrator so callous/ unsympathetic when the friend decides to walk down? It’s a long walk down a ski hill, and not much fun.
The friend comes across clearly, and the final paragraph brought back memories of skiing.
