This is one of my favorite things I’ve read here. Normally when I see something I like this much I write a sequel, but I think it’s perfect exactly as it is.
At first I thought it was Santa’s workshop, but this is one of the funnier renditions of what the Tooth Fairy is all about and why she wants all them teeth. An especially funny tale to read this morning, as the Tooth Fairy paid a visit to our house last night to collect an incisor.
I had the same thought about Santa’s workshop that THX did. However, I was a bit disturbed by the last paragraph. Something about pieces of humans being used to make instruments just doesn’t sit right with me, even if it’s just lost teeth. I don’t know whether your intention was to be funny or disturbing, but it appears this story generated both reactions. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it very much!
Better late than never. Before the Christmas break I was too busy to judge this thing, and during the break I couldn’t log in to Ficly on the computer I was using. Anyway, here are my thoughts.
This is the most conservative entry. It plays strictly by the rules and succeeds in being the most coherent and self-contained of the three stories. On the other hand, the style of writing doesn’t particularly grab me. That is to say, if I pulled a book off a shelf and read this, I probably wouldn’t turn the page.
Honestly, all three stories submitted to this challenge have their own strengths and weaknesses, and you might like to read my comments on the others. It was very hard to choose a winner, but because the challenge is based on a tradition from my mother’s side of the family, I decided that it was appropriate to ask for Mum’s opinion on the stories during the Christmas break. She liked yours the best.
