Boxed in but castled

The crate jostled as Janus and Lauren conversed. Lauren let out a muffled grunt as the crate dropped.

“I think we made another transit connection.” Janus said sarcastically. Lauren complained incomprehensibly, having apparently gotten stuck in some packing material in the crate.

Janus sighed. They had real idea of where they were going, promises had been made, yes. But not by trustworthy people. Hopefully it was worth the risk.

“Are you okay?” Janus inquired. Through Lauren’s muffled complaints, Janus heard spitting. “Yeah, just got something that tasted like packing peanuts and felt in my mouth. I’m okay now.”

“Do you think we’ll make it?” Janus asked. “Of course, I mean, we have to make it!” Lauren replied confidently. Janus nodded in the dark. “Yes, you’re right, we just need a little time after we arrive to put the last pieces in place. Even if we don’t make it, remember the backup plans we have in place.” Lauren added “Yup, Carmen has the letter, if we don’t make it the plan will still happen.”
