Getting ahead
The head on the wall had an expression of horror across its face. Quite a feat for a Jackalope. Janus looked up at it too.
The client follow their gaze. “Ah yes, my latest taxidermy project, it has the correct amount of whimsy, is that the right word?” He smiled.
“Uh, yes, very whimsical.” Lauren said, still staring at the head. “Do you have the item” Janus asked. “Yes, of course, assuming you have all of the payment.” the client replied sweetly.
“Of course, we’re professionals” Janus said humbly. “Shall we do the exchange now?” Lauren added meekly. “No, no, that is not necessary, unless, of course you two are prepared—” the client trailed off, a look of hunger glazing over his eyes.
“We of course, will need to inspect the item before the exchange.” Janus said sternly. “Of course! Ivan, get the item right now!”
“Yes, of course!” Ivan scurried away wheezing breathily. Janus gave Lauren a Are we sure we want to go through with this look. Lauren closed her eyes and nodded slightly. Janus shrugged.
