Christmas Memoire
The thing about desire, we will make what we want happen, happen. Even if something seems silly to others, if it is important enough to us, we will beg, borrow or steal to get it.
For instance, I was determined to get my boys a Christmas ornament for the tree every year. It had to symbolize what they were interested in that year, or their age in the case of them being babies at first. Even though we had little enough money to spend on all the people we wanted to get gifts for, I would rather spend less on someone else so I could get the ornaments for the boys.
But last year, we didn’t get any. The kind I wanted was not in stock in the store. I was forced to give up this ideal. My kids made ornaments anyway, and those are far nicer than store bought ones. I realized how silly that ideal was, and how much stock I had put in it.
If I wanted to, I could buy two ornaments each this year to make up for it, but I don’t think I will. I’d rather make the season about making new memories, than counting all the old.
