Rough van ride

“There’s a Cylink node on All Saints Road,” Libby was a little distracted by the driving, “I should have remembered.” To the radio, she said “She needs Norman and fast. I’m putting Charlie off at point 5. Where is he?”
“By the time you get there, he’ll be at eight.”
“Received. Just be quick.”

Libby shot a quick glance into the back of the van. Charlotte had jumped into the back and was cradling her friend’s head on her lap. Katie had her eyes screwed shut. Libby thought that she saw blood. “Woss happnin’?” Katie managed through gritted teeth.
“We drove too close to a transmitter: your bug’s turned nasty. I’m so sorry. It’s my fault”
“Keep your head Charlie, we need you,” shouted Libby from the front. “Hard right now.”

Charlotte cushioned Katie’s head as best she could as they slid around in the van. “Not far now. Norman will have a go at it.”
The van screeched to a halt. “Charlie. Out. Now.” She kissed Katie on the forehead and was gone.
“Hang on, sweetie,” Libby said, “not far now.”
