I am intrigued by the lead-in. It is a great way to describe “how” one time travels accidentally. This is a great approach.

While I wasn’t as jazzed about the structure of the story (I can see where you were going—it works better in the end than the beginning), two sentences made me grin: You know it’s far because of the X and of course I’m talking about the future.
