Ficly

Darkness Closes In

Megan knew all this and still she lay trembling in the dark while her fiance snored quietly beside her. There was a torch on the chest of drawers beside her but she was too afraid to reach for it.

Somewhere in the dark something was watching her. She could feel its eyes on her even if she could not see it.

“Megs?” her fiance shifted beside her. “You’re shaking.”

She felt him reach for her and, at the same time, something lunged for him. Hot, sticky blood splattered across her face as the thing in the darkness tore her fiance to pieces. A wet muzzle pressed against her ear, its rancid breath rolling over her. Megan whimpered in the dark.

It reared back, ready to devour her but her arm shot out and found the torch. A beam of light snapped out, cutting through the darkness. Megan didn’t see the monster that had killed her fiance but she did hear it shriek as the light sliced through it.

She was later found rocking in the corner of the bedroom, clutching the torch and staring at the bloodied bed.
