A Whisper in the Night

I lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, unable to sleep. Thoughts swirl in my mind everytime I close my eyes. As a result, I toss and turn, the covers gathering around me like woven cord.
After many hours of trying to forget my troubles, I close my eyes to pray for relief.
Dear Lord, Please help me to cast my worries on You. I need some rest and each thought can wait until tomorrow. Please protect my family and friends and help them to get the rest that they need also. In Jesus name, Amen.
I open my eyes one last time, then close them. Starting fresh.
My mind drifts away. My body relaxes, falling into the deepest of slumbers.
My breathing slows. I enter REM sleep. But now my time has come.
Eventually, my breath stops completely and I exhale one last time. I was at peace and went quietly.
Like a whisper in the night.
