Interesting mythology, the thought that slavery in winter is unavoidable. There’s almost something pre-farming, hunter-gatherer about the story. Perhaps the Holly King is one of the farmers who enslaves hunter-gatherers come the winter, providing them with shelter in exchange for—

—actually, “snow cage”, so scratch that idea. Nonetheless, it’s an interesting little snatch of prose. Would like to see it developed a little further.

I’d agree with Gabe’s comment on the slightly confusing text. I appreciate your emphasis on plot, but I think you could maybe spent a little more time clarifying your setup – maybe just a paragraph or two of clear prose before you dip into the crazy.
