Love

“I know the answer!” Sean made me start as he yelled through my bedroom window. He was my neighbour and a self-confessed science nerd. He stood there grinning at me pointing to a notebook he had pressed against the glass.

I walked slowly to the window and pushed a finger to my lips before opening the window slowly. “Okay,” I whispered. “But the answer to what?”

“Remember the other day?” he said.

He just looked at me, waiting for me to confirm that I did indeed remember. “Which day?” I pushed.

“Oh, yeah,” he chirped. “The other day when we were in your garden after the rain and we saw that rainbow.” I nodded slowly, confused as to where on Earth this could be going. “It got me thinking and I’ve worked out at what angle a rainbow appears from the horizon!”

I let out a sigh, knowing that he wouldn’t notice. When he talked about maths his wide eyes glazed over and he became immune to the world. I zoned back in. “… 42 degrees! Cool right?”

“Yeah, I said.” Why did I love him so much?
