Ten Years

My head leans on your shoulder, as my eyes stray out the car window, watching the world slide by me. Raindrops dot the landscape; every now and then we pass a dilapidated house.

Ten years from now, will you remember all of this? Will you remember me, the girl I am now? Or perhaps you will have moved on, forgotten. Maybe you’ll have new friends, a different life. Ten years is an awful long time.

Or, maybe you will remember. I know I won’t forget. I won’t forget this bond we have, all the memories we’re sharing. No matter what happens to you, I can promise that I won’t forget.

Yeah, ten years is a long time.

Maybe in ten years, we’ll still be best friends, just like we are now. Older, yes, but still the forever friends we are now. I don’t know. Only time will tell us.

But the world keeps on passing me by, with my head here on your shoulder. Ten years is a long time. But right now, right now is beautiful. I put my arms around you and feel you right here, my best friend.
