Best of Friends

“Did you see that?” Corrine asked pointing up at the sky at a canopy of stars.
“Me? no!” Julian answered.
“Whaddya mean, “me”? who else would i be talking to?" she had that look. You know, the look of: ‘Are you really that dumb?’ look. Julian often gave her cause to use it.
Julian shrugged but looked up. “What was it,”
“Shooting star, i think!”
“Nice.” Julian looked at her and he tapped her on the shoulder, “So, what happened?”
“What are you talking about?”
“You never just call me in the middle of the night for nothing. What’s happened?”
Corrine’s mouth twisted downward, her frown wavering a little, “Same ol’ crap, y’know? I just needed a friendly face.”
“Why don’t you get out of there?”
“I dunno,” she shrugged, “Besides I always have you don’t I?”
Julian lay back on the hood of the car, hands behind his head, “Hey did you know that we’ve been best friends for almost 15 years?”
“Phew, practically married!” quipped Corrine.
“Why haven’t we ever dated again?”
“Cuz you’re an ass, Jules, you know that!”
“Oh ya!”
