#16 Revelation
The van filled with light. I had no idea what time it was. Whatever sleep I had had felt short and not at all comfortable. The floor tilted as a man clambered onto the metal base and grabbed my wrist. I tried to pull away in early-morning resistance, longing to go back to sleep once more. The man climbed in until he was next to me and put his arms round my waist, and I recognised him as the driver. He dragged me out into the daylight and made me stand up.
I closed my eyes. Even with them open I could hardly see, but I used all my energy to listen to him speak with another man.
“Here she is, Derek,” the driver said, pulling me forward.
“She’s spent,” Derek retorted. I groaned lightly. “What the fuck have you been doing to her.”
“We got her. We just wanted a reward.”
“Fine,” I could hear the disgust in Derek’s voice. “We’ll have to wait till tomorrow. Turn off the cameras!” he shouted at someone behind him. The light went and collapsed, after opening my eyes onto the horrific premonition of my future.
