Dream Fulfillment Part Eight (bucket list)
“I haven’t slept like that in months!” he scratched at his hair, which stood on end making him look more rooster-like.
“So what are you saying?”
“You’re good for me.”
I sighed.
“So, after today’s big day, and the dolphin thing, then what?”
“Don’t think about that.”
“Live in the now.. I get it. I just don’t know if I can do it.”
“I can help you.” He moved closer to me, hinting that that was yet another loaded statement.
“Why don’t we just get ready for the long day? What time do we have to be there?”
He growled at me, but complied.
That evening, after having sold every copy I’d brought, we again toasted our success.
“That was awesome!” I declared.
“That’s how it feels to live in the now.” He said it sagely, with the wisdom of monks.
“See? Natural highs are better than chemical ones.” I tried to out-logic him.
“But random and far between,” he countered.
“Unless you live in the now.” I giggled. “Live every day like it’s..” but I couldn’t finish, knowing the sting of loss was still great for him.
