Jane (cont)

Crowned unwillingly at just sixteen
It looked like she’d have a long life as Queen
But then came Mary, King Henry’s daughter
Who blew all Dudley dreams out of the water

Arrested and placed under house arrest
To Mary’s takeover Jane didn’t protest
For she said that she’d never wanted the crown
But her father wouldn’t take this lying down

The new Queen had promised a pardon for them
The young couple, imprisoned, she wouldn’t condemn
But her father joined Wyatt’s revolt
And Mary, their antics did she halt

So Jane and Guildford their fate now sealed
Would face execution on the Tower Green field
Letters to her father and mother she did write
She didn’t want to feel the axe’s bite

So upon that day the 12th of Feb
Young Lady Jane Grey lost her head
At just 17, upon Tower Green
The innocent traitor, the nine day queen
