Blindness ~ a pantoum

[this pantoum is in two parts cos it breaks the maximum character limit]

These empty rooms are filled with blindness
I cannot see what has been left me here
Mostly I try to rearrange things
So that it won’t matter that you’re gone

I cannot see what has been left me here
But still I keep things tidy for you
So that it won’t matter that you’re gone
I’ll be ready for your never-coming-back

But still I keep things tidy for you
I line the shoes up in heel height order
I’ll be ready for your never-coming back
When I learn to walk each day a little taller

I line the shoes up in heel height order
Feeling a twist in my heart not my ankle
When I learn to walk each day a little taller
And you’re not there to see me or reward me

Feeling a twist in my heart and not my ankle
I refuse to stumble out of doorways
And you’re not there to see me or reward me
Though my thighs swing easy from my hips
