A True Story From Haiti

The concrete blocks had been a gift. Tahir’s boss from the mill had given them to her. She had suffer because of the gift, eating lunch alone receiving envious, angry starves. The other women would not speak to her, they still lived in houses of reeds or lean-tos.

Tahir suffered gratefully. Life had changed for her , her husband and three children. They were now wealthy. It had taken a week to build but now they had a real home.

Then it happened. The ground shook and the house tumbled down. Tahir husband never moved again but the children did. They were hurt but alive. They said the children needed surgery. A helicopter would come soon.

But it didn’t.

“Tomorrow for sure”, yet no helicopter.

After three days, one child remained. Tahir held her baby as the last breath escaped.

Still no helicopter.
