Chapter 4: The Mean Bean

Neither woman voiced what they were thinking. It was ridiculous. How could this be true. Yet, it continued to happen with each day. Their skin was tightening, the age spots disappearing, Ethel had even grown a few inches taller; evidenced by her shorter pants.

One morning, while discussing their perplexing situation, they overheard a fellow townsman, Doug Burns, telling his wife how his bunion he’d been plagued with for twenty years was gone. Ethel and Betty looked around the shop scanning the room for more evidence of changes. Hector was arm wrestling Bert Walker, Gertrude, the mayor’s house bound wife, was sitting at the coffee counter, and Mabel was wearing a jogging suit and tennis shoes, instead of polyester and her usual orthopedic shoes.
