The Gig

This was it, his big gig. He knew the opening number, he knew it would get the crowd going. All those people, all those eyes. All fixated on him. He felt more alive than he ever had before.
He closed his eyes, cleared his mind, and focused on the music. He began to play, he was concentrating so hard on the music, he didn’t open his eyes, not for the whole song. He played his heart out. It was the greatest performance of his life, and it was HIS song, it was all him, his words, his music, his soul.
He loved every second of it. He’d always loved music and when he was playing it was when he was at his happiest. He’d had a tough life, he always seemed to be getting the short end of the stick, never getting the breaks he felt he deserved. But not anymore, he was playing his song, his music and it was amazing.
The song finished, he played his last long chord on his old guitar.
And he opened his eyes.
He looked at his tatty old hat in front of him, it was empty, and the pedestrians just kept on walking by.
