This treads a fine line, because, technically, being a ‘steel-clawed hawk of oblivion’ isn’t a human characteristic, it’s a description – but other parts did fulfil the challenge requirement – and it was consummately well written…
The real historical context lends it a real impact in the conclusion – the justification, the righteousness which the plane feels is where you really get into the motif in depth.
I’m not entirely certain that an anthropomorphized B-29 would see it self that way, but I am pretty sure “Little Boy” and “Fat Man” would. Perhaps it would see it self as carrying death rather than being death itself.
I like the historicity. But then I am a fan of history.
