Lockdown
My fingers danced across the screen as I opened page after page of documents.
“Staring at that screen all night isn’t going to help you.” My mother said standing in the doorway behind me.
“No matter what they say i’m not getting the surgery.” I replied tapping the holographic screen faster.
“Then you asking for them to take you away. What am I to do without a son? I’m not going to be 72 forever you know.”
“You have the robot.”
“A robot can’t love like a son can.”
“You called ma’am?” Our servant bot chimed in.
“No, go back to the kitchen and finish cooking please.” she sighed and looked at me.
“They’ve taken over 237 people this week, i’ll soon be one.”
“If you got the surgery before they find you, they won’t take you.”
“I’m sorry mom, i’m not changing who I am to comply with society.”
“It’s your choice and as much as I don’t want you to do this, i’m not going to stop you.” she said leaving the room.
In the silence I thought to myself.
“If being a homosexual is a crime, take me away.”
