Home sweet home

Deborah raised her eyebrows. “Where, exactly, is ‘here?’” she asked, looking at the barren landscape. Seth replied, “All in due time.”

He removed a key from his pocket and unlocked the door, revealing a surprisingly cozy little house. Deborah looked around in surprise. “You live here?”

“Close enough,” Seth replied. He pointed at a door on the far wall. “You can have that room, if you want to stay.”

Deborah chose not to question this response as she walked across the room. She opened the door to reveal a small, cluttered bedroom. “Sorry about the mess,” Seth interjected from behind her, startling her. “I wasn’t exactly expecting company, you know.”

Deborah glanced warily towards Seth. “Why are you doing this? Why did you take me here?”

Seth shrugged. “We’re both looking for the Laughing Man’s gangsters, right? Maybe we’d be better off working together … if you’re ok with it, that is.”
