A moving and dire warning against dehumanisation at the sake of progress. It’s not until I reread it that I understood the significance of “A darkness” either – very subtle. There was a fantastic image of the Earth becoming a blot of darkness and fading into space. I really enjoy how you’ve told this, almost like a tale from the distant past, or as an outside observer. Commendably written.
One little thing that bugged me… doesn’t the Doctor mention the Vashta Nerada living on Earth already?
Yep, fellow Doctor fan, he does. But not in such vast quantities that they can be studied. Because they’ve been there since before the humans they’ve become part of the ecosystem and can’t be removed without damaging everything.
Wow! This reminded me of the holocaust actually. There’s a poem that i read a while ago which is like this. It goes on a list of people that the nazi’s sent to the camps with the narrator’s approval. Once the nazis took everyone, there was no one to fight for the narrator of the poem. Nicely done
Wow. This was incredibly gripping…and the last line was absolutely perfect.
The only thing I would say is that in the first paragraph, maybe cuddling would make more sense than huddling? It’s your choice, but I feel like you huddle with a football team, and cuddle a child.
