Out of Lovehearts
Opening a packet of lovehearts, they came out in the following order:
Smile
Forever
Cheer Up
Take it Easy
You’re Mine
I Love You
At least that was the first six…
But then, so close to Valentine’s, it could help but cross my mind that I had nobody to say these things on the V-Day.
It seemed like every year, I seemed to be without love on this one romantic day of the year. I felt like someone upstairs was saying that I wasn’t allowed to get chocolate and presents and be treated real special.
And so every year a tradition was formed.
On the 14th February I would book myself into a 5-star hotel and stay in all night watching romantic films with a tub of Haagen-Dazs, ten packets of love hearts and a massive box of tissues.
Since that tradition was formed, my luck has changed, and some years I have a partner who really would like to take me out to dinner… but the tradition lives on.
Only now I don’t cry for an absence of love, but an absence of life that I can never seem to get hold of.
