Nice! I’m assuming nanites or something, but it’s kept vague enough that the reader can supply his own idea.
The same for how they got from the asteroid to Earth, though that’s less satisfying for me. Would have been better (for me) if there was more of an indication or answer for that part.
Still, very nice.

Neat concept succinctly told. The last and final in that last line are redundant and took some of the power out of the statement, I thought.
