A Walk Together

Their arms linked together like a sterling chain, Jack thought about her.

Her beauty.
Her laugh.
Her life, which had been his obsession for countless years.

A dried rose petal screamed out a silent whimper as it was crushed by his Italian dress-shoes. They continued forward, leaving the red beauty limp on the sand. They reached the middle of their last journey together. His eyes began to tear up, but his pride did not let the tears drop. His step became weak, and his grip tightened around her arm. She seemed to notice, but they continued on, looking forward. Looking at the inevitable end.

At last they were there; at the footsteps of good bye. He looked up at the man that would take away his angel.

Hardly yet a man, but a young boy, he thought. With a kiss he said his good bye, and took his seat.

His baby girl was about to take the largest step of her life; without him.
