The phone call
He sat in silence, not sure whether to get angry or let the tears flow. He decided against the latter and immediately punched a hole right into his wall. Jason could hardly believe the news, his dad has terminal cancer.
“What was that?!” Jason’s mom said scared.
Jason flexed his hand slowly as he held his phone to his ear, “Sorry mom…nothing.”
“You okay?” His mom asked about to cry for the umpteenth time.
“I’m…I’m fine,” Jason replied now desperately fighting his tear ducts. “Is he there?”
“Yes, hold on…” his mom said sniffling as she handed the phone to Jason’s father. “Hello?” His dad said, his had no hint of sadness.
“Hey dad, you doing okay?”
“Jason! It’s great to hear from you!” Jason’s dad was genuinely happy.
“It’s uh, it’s great to uh hear you too dad,” Jason couldn’t hold his tears back.
“Listen, don’t be upset. I’ll be fine. I’ve lived a good life, have a great family, what better legacy to leave behind than you son. I’m proud of you and I love you.”
“I love you too dad.”
