If this is a true story I can only say that at least the experience allowed you to write a great piece of work…
Other than ‘idly’ I can’t see any spelling hitches, and the content is engaging and well written, even if it did take a while to get going – a strong entry, well done! MH :)
Spelling error rpaired – thanks for catching that.
The first time I heard “Puff the Magic Dragon” was in the radio room of the Park Street Boys’ club in North Columbia South Carolina.
Subsequently, I became a lifelong folk music fan and a PP&M fan especially. Now, I enjor Irish folk music and dance.
Little things meld together to create a man where a boy once stood. I suspect that “story songs” such as “Puff” and the Harry Chapin songs that made him famous play more than a casual role in who I am and what and how I write.
And England – Walking the wall at York was a spiritual experience.
Great little bit of story, and I was relieved to see the song used as with its actual meaning and intent and not the spurious drug association some people try to make. Lots of little details, and I liked the visual of this bruised, bloodied preteen finding some solace with the radio. I liked it.
