The second drawer
The letter had been found behind the left most of the half columns. I griped the center one and pulled. It slid out easily and inside was another envelope. I turned it in my hands and saw it was addressed, Mr. James Dough. I opened the envelope and read.
Tommy, if this some kind of a cruel trick you are playing on me then I think it is beastly. Boys shouldn’t make their sisters look foolish on a lark.
James, if I may call you by your Christian name.
The morning post brought your letter to me. I cannot understand how you read my letter, as after reading your, I checked and mine was still safely in its hiding place.
That you live in the year 2010, in this very house, seems impossible. Yet you know my secret very well. I have no explanation except to accept what you tell me as true.
I have read and reread your letter many times since it arrived. It too moves me. Perhaps the thought of a friend more than a 120 year in the future is fantasy. Yet to know that I have such a friend fills my heart.
