Above All Else [03]
Wakefulness came slowly at first, then accelerated into searing pain by the late day sun. Great spires still glinted from my back, shimmering from exposure and reflected heat. I felt sick, like something was deeply wrong. I moved to push myself up, forgetting entirely that my left arm was broken. I felt nothing but the searing heat of the sun on my body. regardless of its condition, I managed to prop myself up to a sitting position. My legs were out to the side, I cradled my arm, blinking dirt from my eyes as I looked around. My wings scraped along the ground, and I leaned back on them for support. Breathing heavily, I took stock of my situation. 20 klicks from where I wanted to be, severely dehydrated, 4 broken ribs, dislocated shoulder, broken forearm and a malfunctioning flight system. Somehow though, I didn’t find the situation grim, or even unfavorable at all. I stood with a slight wobble and began to make my way towards my destination.
