Cool! I really dig these sci-fis that are sci-fis but still within the grasp of human potential. I itch for a sequel.
I think that instead of focusing so much on the boredom of the character, you could have spent more time on the approach or a description of the Alien craft. I think that would have been a little more gripping.
Ya.. I can see why you’d say that.. but i wrote this knowing i’d be doing a sequel.. and I really wanted to impress how bored this guy was .. cuz at the end, all hell will break loose and he won’t be so bored anymore. But you’re right it’s a fine balancing act.. i struggled with it too. Thanks for the input. Feel free to sequel if you wish. No reason why someone else can put a spin on it.
For a sci-fi kind of thing, it’s a fairly standard beginning, what with the sudden alien attack or whatever – but that wasn’t what caught my eye in this piece.
For a second, he wondered what it would be like to turn the hatch-lock and be sucked out in to space. It was fleeting. He blinked the thought away.
That there was a really original approach to sci-fi, looking at how the human mind deals with the isolation of space, and I kind of wished you’d explored that further, rather than going down the alien attack route…
Still, it’s intriguing, and acts as a prime launch pad for anybody to sequel any whichway they fancy – MH :)
Oh I think I will be sequeling. I’m pondering the possibilities at this very moment. However, if you are planning to write a sequel yourself, I will wait so that I may see it. Then I’ll vault off in the exact opposite direction for entertainments sake.
Harmless: You know what? You make a fantastic point! That is exactly what i wanted to explore… but in 1024 characters… it’s hard to do… Space is lonely. Let’s face it. I wanted to bring that forward first before having all the universe fall on the crew of the Icarus.
Alro: Glad it wasn’t taken offensively, I just thought that line was really intriguing, and kind of hoped the rest would follow on… Still, I’ll be keeping an eye out for any developments! MH :)
