#65 Heaven Sent
I clambered up the stone steps, struggling with every movement. Behind me there were millions clambering the same step, but I was near the top now. The stone stairway stopped and I collapsed onto the misty ground.
“Stand, child.” The voice boomed as if it was everywhere, but no one seemed to hear but me. I pushed myself to my feet, letting my arms swing freely at my sides. The sky was blue and bright, but underneath my feet I could see a trap door, scorched at the side. It followed me when I tried to move.
“God?” I whispered.
“No,” it boomed. “I am Azrèal, adcovate of Satan. For we have taken Heaven to be ours. Now sign your soul to me or commit yourself to the fires of Hell.”
“I would rather burn eternally then give you my soul.”
There was a long cold silence as I waited for the air to rush up around my ears, but it never did. I opened my eyes to see a man in grey two feet from me.
“You have passed the test,” he said, as a small door opened beside me. I beamed as I walked through, and the fire consumed.
