Ouch, very painful stuff, but I liked the theme going on here of triumphing over pain to reach out and provide comfort, a portrait of either altruism or sublimation, either way a positive message and lesson coming out of tragedy.

PJ, this is absolutely stunning. The pain is heart-wrenching, and I like that you show the truth of losing someone close to you, not just the crying but the fact that often the best friend has to be the strong one. If this wasn’t your own challenge I’d say you totally deserve to win. Amazing writing.

You capture the scenario exquisitely. You really share the loss with the reader and they feel and understand, up to a certain extent, the pain you’re going through.

This is really lovely and a wonderful tribute to everyone who has felt loss.
