#71 The Chronicles of Nadya: Chapter One, Part One

Nadya swayed slowly with the movement of the bus, staring out with grey eyes at the greyer clouds above the trees, watching each teardrop slide down the perspex glass. Around her other girls from school talked in their huddles. Sometimes she heard her name.

Nadya pushed a stray strand of hair from her eyes and stared at the tattoo on the palm of her hand. It shone a dull grey shine when she looked at it, casting a pale light over her face.
She stifled a chuckle as she thought of her secret that nobody could ever find out. Not even her parents knew of her powers.

That was shy she had to take a bus instead of flying, and why she had to go to school even though she would never complete it.
She wouldn’t even complete the week.

The day after tomorrow was her seventeenth birthday: the day she would sever all ties. Tomorrow was going to be hard.

Tomorrow would be the beginning of the end.
