First Blood

Heavy rain fell through the trees and made their flashlights almost useless. The squad pressed on as the wind picked up as well. Lightning flashed as what started as a shower turned into an all out downpour.

The Lieutenant was concerned. The map had showed a cave in this area, they couldn’t be too far off course. He made a quick glace for cover so he could check there coordinates, and headed for a tree who’s branches seemed to be stopping most of the rain. As he looked over the map, a burst of lightning caused him to look up. He caught sight of a silhouette up the tree fifteen feet away and dropped everything. He went to shout to his man but it was already too late.

The rifleman had been squinting through the rain to watch for movement while they all had stopped when a sweet scent filled his nose. A fine chord rapidly wrapped around him and he was yanked off the ground before he could even scream. The attack ended, the prey was taken, and the silhouette was gone while the four stood helpless in the dark.
