Bedtime
“Anna? Anna, wake up!”
“Ugh… what?”
“I can’t sleep. Can I sleep with you? Please please pretty please with a cherry on to-”
“Alright, come on and lie down.”
“Oh, you’re the best big sister ever!”
“Whatever. ’Night.”
“…Anna, can you tell me a bedtime story?”
“Just get to sleep.”
“Not until you tell me a story.”
“Fine. Once upon a time there was a little girl who wouldn’t leave her sister alone, so the closet monster snuck up and ate her. The End.”
“The closet monster is gonna eat me???”
“No, Susie… Just go to sleep.”
“Ok, Anna. G’night.”
“Good night, Susie.”
“Anna?”
“What now?”
“What are you dreaming about?”
“Nothing, because you woke me up.”
“Oh, well, I’m dreaming about the closet monster. He’s actually really nice and we’re having a tea party. He said that he loves me and that he’d never eat me. So ha!”
“That’s nice, Susie. Maybe if you actually shut up and let me sleep, I could go to the party, too.”
“Really?”
“Yes, really.”
“Ooh! Then I’ll sleep!”
“Good.”
“Anna?”
“Be quiet!”
“I love you! G’night!”
