Change of Job Description

The heat of the hot desert sun was beating down on Private Stone’s face as he stared at it’s orange glow. Stone could barely sleep on this three day cargo carrying trip from Fort Griffith Texas.

Stone had just crossed into New Mexico when the train came to a complete stop in a town called Hobbs. He could hear passengers getting on an off the passenger cars. He didn’t say a word as a Sergeant in uniform with a badge on his left arm that Stone had never seen before stepped into the Cargo Container. Stone immediately stood at attention. “Private John Stone, as I understand it you have been carrying this piece of cargo into New Mexico.”

Jones spoke, “Yes sir, those are my orders.”

“Do you have any idea what it is you are carrying?”

“No sir.”

“Good, you are now relieved of active duty of the Untied States Military.”

Stone looked surprised, “Pardon me sir?”

The Sergeant continued, “As of this day May 3rd 1881, you are now commissioned into the Special Secret Service Division of the U.S. Treasury.”
