If you ever find yourself looking at the wrong end of a gun, pray that it is a bad man holding it.
You see, it will be murder. Even a bad man knows that. The most important difference to the person on the wrong end is that a good man cares about this, while for any number of reasons a bad man would not.
A bad man will, unless there are other concerns present, try to explain why he feels that your death is of benefit to him. In this case, you are granted a limited chance to discuss. Perhaps you will be able to argue successfully.
A good man, however, will have nothing to say. He will kill you without a word. Perhaps he may feel guilty over it, but he has nothing to say to you that will make it any better. If he says anything at all, it is rarely more than an apology.
I’m looking down at you right now, and I know that you’re not in luck. The gun is in my hand, and I know where I stand.
“I’m sorry. I wish it didn’t have to end this way.”
I pull the trigger and reflect on what I have done.
