A combination of a few things in here – it’s sad, but also kind of comic.
The idea of a nerdy female super is nice, but I missed a more, for want of a better word, realistic explanation for the powers – ‘sudden gift from the gods’?
Perhaps you intend to go somewhere with this and drop in some more detail, but it left a bit of a hole for me, that lack of reasoning…
Back to close with some good points though, she’s Welsh, which is original, and I liked, and the bittersweet ending was interesting – does she mind being spat on, as long as she’s unknowingly being praised and talked about?
Asks some nice questions about that idea of fame and perception too – so generally, well done! MH :)
Ah, Cardiff. I only know it from Doctor Who. As MH said, I feel like this is more of a start than something self-contained. There is more description than action here, more of a brief character portrait than anything.
It reminds me strongly of Kick-Ass, which you may or may not have heard of, but which does not include actual super powers to my knowledge. Something to consider, though… don’t want to copy ideas too closely unintentionally.
Yeah, MH I had trouble containing it to 1024 characters whilst keeping everything in there. In my notebook there’s a lot more detail on how the powers were discovered. Ah well, some stories are flops.
Although I knew where this was headed…up until the point where she can jump buildings I was almost anticipating this to have a twist ending of teenage prostitution.
Anywho, I agree with MH’s comments, but I can see this could have some great sequels of a coming of age superhero story.
Wow this really reminds me of someone I know! She has so many talents but she lives like she has a mask over her face and wants people to see her works and not the person behind them all.
