You paint (pardon the pun) quite a charming, picturesque scene here – but there are little indicators in there that things aren’t quite right – what’s the importance of the colour selection? Why does it have to remain exactly right? Why do children have to watch from a ‘safe’ distance?
Quite abstract, but intriguing and different, which is good to see – well done! MH :)
The last line really intrigued me…what’s the significance of the fact that they don’t live there anymore? Do the people keep the house painted this way for them, whether because they have demanded it, or in respect, maybe memory? This could go so many ways. I love it. Write a sequel?
