She walked away to her son, tossing her hair indignantly. She never liked Jacob asking her to spend less time with her son, but what else could he do? They had met in the spring when her husband had died. Jacob had been there through everything and treated her son like his own. With the wedding band around her finger, he had thought that Amber would choose him now; that she would let her son grow up.
Amber scooped her son up into her arms and the knowing that his love would be eternally hers filled her with familiar warmth. Of all the men in her life, her son was the only boy who she knew she could keep forever.
