Incessant White Noise
I am trying hard to concentrate on the seemingly meaningless jumble of numbers and letters, trying to make sense of it. Maths has never been my strong point, and the more I try to focus, the more the numbers seemed to swim across the page.
But that’s not the worst bit. As I try to concentrate, a small buzzing begins to fill my thoughts. As the incessant sound builds to a crescendo, more and more of my focus is drawn away. I snap.
“Oh my God sis! Can’t you see I’m trying to study?” I scream. “I honestly don’t give a damn about your bloody dolls or whatever the hell you’re whinging about! Shut the hell up and leave me alone! Better yet, get the hell out of my room!”
The instant the words leave my mouth, I regret them. Tears well up in her eyes and she runs out crying. Crap. Now mum and dad will come and give me a talk about how I should treat my sister. I’m never going to get any work done. I really hate exams.
