The Ring Goes Southeast (Scene 4)
Spock was momentarily taken aback by the image of Vulcan, but quickly realized that Gandalf had a measure of control in this meld as well. That image was replaced by others: his childhood home, his pet sehlat, his parents…
The images flowed increasingly quickly: stars, Earth, Star Fleet Academy, the Enterprise, Kirk, McCoy, his death and rebirth… The many worlds and races that he encountered through his days as a Star Fleet officer and later as an ambassador were each recalled for only the briefest of instants.
Waves of curiosity and astonishment, which had been building, began to abate. Spock realized that he again had control in the meld. The tapestry of memory had changed. Where previously there had seemed no boundaries, limitations were now very apparent.
Spock unsuccessfully attempted to recall the image of the two trees. It was clear that Gandalf had deemed that some threads were not to be pulled. Understanding that, there was still much to explore, and Spock set about his task once more.
