present
“We are going to visit Master and his puppy” she says.
“Wonderful, but lets find a present first. I don’t want to show up empty handed” I reply “I already have an idea, lets visit a pet shop and find her a nice bowl. You can do the talking.”
--
“We’re looking for a food bowl for a dog;” she says to the pet shop owner “a pink one preferably.”
" What size dog is it?"
“a medium sized one”
“breed?”
“I don’t know. It looks like there are a lot of different ones in there.”
“Here” I interrupt “how about this metal one with the paw prints.”
“Yes, that looks good, we’ll take it”
“Have you got a water bowl?” inquires the shop keeper further.
“Yes, she’s got a water bowl”
“How old is the dog?”
“It’s an older one”
“Where did you get it?”
“Well, the owners went away and they couldn’t take her with them, so now we sort of inherited her …” the exasperation in her voice is almost tangible.
We pay quickly. Outside the shop we burst out lauging.
